Beware of Desperation
Today's Devotion, Beware of Desperation. In moments of desperation, we may be forced to make decisions. Some may work for us and some may work against us. There are times when desperation can pull us to God, and there are times that the satisfaction that we get from desperation can pull us away from God.
Desperation can open the door to disobedience. When Saul was king of Israel, he faced desperation as he prepared for a battle with the Philistines. God was silent because Saul had disobeyed Him repeatedly.
Instead of repenting, Saul turned to a medium, the witch of Endor. In 1 Samuel 28 verse 67 it is written, He inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him by dreams or urim or prophets. Saul then said to his attendants, Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her.
His choice cost him his kingdom, his peace, and eventually his life. My brothers and sisters in Christ, Never allow desperation to lead you to places or people who will use witchcraft to fix your problems. You cannot use a band-aid to fix a bullet wound.
Heavenly Father, in Leviticus 19 verse 31 it is written, Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord. God has given us two choices, light and darkness, His way or the devil's way.
The devil's way opens the door to hell, and God's way opens the door to eternal life. Lord, help us not to seek worldly wisdom instead of your word. In Isaiah 30 verse 1 it is written, Woe to the obstinate children, declares the Lord, to those who carry out plans that are not mine, forming an alliance, but got by my spirit keeping.
Sin upon sin. Lord, give us the wisdom to make our decisions and remove the heavy burden of desperation and replace it with your perfect peace. Fill our minds with confidence, knowing you are in control, and will always provide for our needs.
All these we ask in Jesus' name, Amen.
